Smash Burgers


Ingredients:

Ground beef (preferably 80/20 mix for the best flavor and juiciness)
Salt and pepper
Hamburger buns
Cheese slices (American cheese works well)
Toppings of your choice (lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, etc.)
Equipment:
A heavy-duty spatula
A griddle or cast-iron skillet

Instructions:

Preheat Your Cooking Surface: Heat your griddle or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
Form the Patties: While the griddle is heating, form the ground beef into loosely packed balls, about 2 to 3 ounces each.
Smash the Burgers: Once the griddle is hot, place the beef balls on the griddle. Immediately smash them flat with the heavy spatula to about 1/4 inch thickness. The key is to do this quickly so that the juice doesn’t escape.
Season: Season with salt and pepper.
Cook: Cook the patties for about 2-3 minutes until the edges are brown and crispy. Flip the burgers and cook for another minute.
Add Cheese: Place a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt.
Prepare the Buns: While the burgers are cooking, toast the buns on the griddle.
Assemble: Place the cooked patties on the buns and add your desired toppings.
